Unfortunately, the Fire Safety Presentation program has been discontinued at the San Jose Fire Department. However, they offer free safety information on their website that can help you keep your apartment safe.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
How are you keeping the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. alive today? Are you helping with a service project? If not, would you like to?
On this Day of Service, you can volunteer to help a school in need in the San Jose area. Until 3 p.m. today, volunteers will be making a difference at Daniel Lairon Elementary School.
Named in honor of former Principal, Daniel Lairon, volunteers are helping with much needed projects at the school including:
• Organizing Classrooms
• Painting the Blacktop
• Restoring the School Garden
• Painting Murals
Volunteers and organizations all over the San Jose area are all lending a helping hand. Since you children are out of school today, take them to the Daniel Lairon Elementary School to give back. By giving back on MLK Day, you child will understand that today is not about being “off’ from work and school, but about being “on” in making a difference.
Daniel Lairon Elementary School is located at 3975 Mira Loma Way in San Jose. For more information about this event, click here.

Messy Bathroom
Are you having trouble finding space in your kitchen and bathroom? Are these rooms in disorder, and you are in need of help? If so, don’t worry because I have some awesome organization tips to share:
• If your kitchen is like mine, you have a lot of papers on the counters. If so, consider purchasing a bulletin board and hang it on your kitchen wall to display papers. If that is not an option, simply buy magnets and hang the needed documents on your refrigerator. However, make sure that the things that you hang are pertinent.
• If you have an old salad spinner that you never use, get rid of it. The same can be said for any other kitchen appliance that you no longer need. For example, why would you keep a broken toaster? There is absolutely no reason why you should hang on to items that no longer can be used. Unnecessary items take up precious storage space.
• To create more space in your bathroom closet or storage area, buy a wine rack to store your bathroom towels. Wine racks can be purchased at a fairly decent price at most department stores.

iPhone
Okay, so it’s day 7 in your quest to keep your resolution to lose weight in 2011. How are you doing? Are you on the right track, or do you need a little boost?
Everywhere you turn there is someone or something that can offer you assistance in your weight loss challenge. In fact, your iPhone or iPod Touch may be just what you need. That’s because they are both compatible with the Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker application by MyFitnessPal. You can use this application to count calories, set goals, and track your progress. In fact there are over 600,000 foods in the database!
Even better, the application has an awesome tool that allows you to invite your family and friends to help motivate and support you while you are on your weight loss journey. This feature allows you to share any updates on your progress with your support system.
The best thing about this application is the fact that you can use your iPhone and get full access to your MyFitnessPal.com account. So, if you are out, and decide to stop somewhere for a quick bite to eat, you can log your meal information into your iPhone, and it actually synchronizes with the website! Oh, don’t worry about cost because the iPhone application and the supporting MyFitnessPal website are both 100% free!
